Demon Slayer umbrella: folding or large model?

In short

The section has fourteen Demon Slayer umbrellas, all with a sword-hilt handle: nine eight-rib folding umbrellas from €69.90, with their printed cover, and five large sixteen-rib stick umbrellas from €119.90, with a long shoulder-strap cover worn like a sword case. The folding one fits in a school bag; the large one shelters two people. As for characters: Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, Inosuke, Giyu, Rengoku, Shinobu, Yoriichi and Kokushibo.

Tanjiro Kamado, his basket of wood on his back and his blue scarf, turns around in the snowy forest, Demon Slayer

On a rainy morning, everyone pulls out the same black umbrella. Yours opens onto Rengoku’s flames, or Tanjiro’s green checks, and the grey of the bus stop instantly takes on another colour. In the evening, closed in its cover, it hangs from your shoulder like a sheathed sword.

This guide reviews the fourteen umbrellas in the section: folding and large formats, characters, handles, covers and prices. It helps you choose the one that suits your daily life, and make it last. Our other buying tips are on the shop’s guides and tips page, and our Demon Slayer merchandise guide presents every section.

Folding or large umbrella: which one to choose?

It all depends on how you carry it. The folding umbrella slips into a bag and comes out at the first cloud. The large stick umbrella is carried on the shoulder, in its strap cover, and gives better protection in a real downpour.

Both families share the same handle: a real sword hilt, guard, binding and pommel included, which you hold in your hand as you would hold the blade. That detail is what sets them apart from an umbrella that simply carries a character’s picture. The whole section is gathered in the collection of Demon Slayer umbrellas.

A sword hilt

Every umbrella in the section has a sword-hilt handle, with its guard and pommel: you hold it like a blade.

The folding umbrellas with sword-hilt handles

The nine folding umbrellas share the same shape: a canopy stretched over eight ribs, the illustration on top, and a sword-hilt handle specific to each character. Folded, each one fits into its printed cover, which leaves only the guard and the hilt sticking out, like a blade in its sheath. Compact enough for a school bag or a sports bag.

Tanjiro’s umbrella shows him sword in hand, carried by a blue wave amid stylised clouds, on a sea-green background. The green and black checks of his haori run around the canopy like a belt. Its handle plays on black: a binding open on red diamonds, a round openwork guard like a wheel, a silver pommel. Tanjiro, who writes to everyone, from his former master to Tomioka who never answers, is the perfect companion for your journeys.

Nezuko and Tanjiro’s umbrella shows them side by side under plum branches with red blossoms, Nezuko with her bamboo muzzle and pink kimono, a blue wave at the foot of the drawing. A sea-green and white checkered border runs around the canopy, with the series’ title in black calligraphy. It is the model for brothers and sisters, or for those who love the series for its family story. Their sections are the complete Tanjiro Kamado collection and the complete Nezuko Kamado collection.

The Hashira as folding umbrellas

Three Hashira have their own folding umbrella. Shinobu’s shows her full length, surrounded by butterflies, on a light background that echoes the wings of her haori, white, green and pink, with a black border dotted with white like the hem of her garment. Her butterfly ornament shows up well seen from above. According to the manga’s bonus pages, Shinobu always wears her hair up in a very tight bun, a neat hairstyle that suits her.

Giyu’s reproduces the two halves of his haori, dark red on one side, the yellow and green geometric pattern on the other, with the Hashira facing forward, sword drawn in a streak of blue water. These two fabrics come from his sister Tsutako and his friend Sabito, both dead: a haori of memories that you carry above your head. Rengoku’s is on fire: yellow, orange and red flames surround him, full length in his flame-edged white haori, his name written in Latin letters, and his face in close-up on the sides. The manga’s bonus pages give the menu of his famous Mugen Train bentos, with simmered beef, and his favourite rice, cooked with pieces of sweet potato. At every mouthful he declares it delicious, loudly enough to make the whole carriage turn round.

Our portraits of Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira and Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Hashira tell their story, and our page about the Hashira of Demon Slayer presents all nine. Shinobu has her complete Shinobu Kocho collection, Giyu the complete Giyu Tomioka collection.

Zenitsu, Inosuke, Yoriichi and Kokushibo

Zenitsu’s folding umbrella can be spotted from afar. The character appears full length, his hand on the hilt of his sword, amid yellow lightning, and the canopy reproduces his yellow haori dotted with white triangles, which gives way to the black of his uniform. Inosuke’s is the funniest: the top is taken up by a single face, his grey boar mask with big blue eyes and a pink snout, spread over several panels. You see him coming from afar, just like the real thing. Seen from above, Inosuke appears bare-chested, blades raised, surrounded by his shouts written in large characters. The manga’s bonus pages also explain why he never wears the uniform jacket: his skin is so sensitive to touch that the contact of the fabric was unbearable to him.

Zenitsu, for his part, hides a touching detail. The same pages tell how he developed a passion for sugoroku, a board game he plays with Tanjiro and the others, and which he had never played before, for lack of anyone to play with. His yellow umbrella suits the days when you need some company.

The two Tsugikuni brothers have theirs too. Yoriichi’s is red, streaked with yellow and black flames, with the face of the Sun demon slayer in large and, seen from above, his silhouette in a red kimono, sword raised amid a blaze; its handle is all gold and black. Kokushibo’s is raspberry, crossed by a large cream crescent moon, beneath which he tilts his six-eyed face. Moon Breathing, which he invented, is never far away, and small black crosses are scattered around him. The manga’s bonus pages joke about his six eyes: he never gets lost in them, but those who look at him do.

As a child, Yoriichi stayed silent for so long that his family thought he was deaf. His father kept him apart, and it was his twin brother who was raised as the heir. Only their mother, Akeno, never gave up on him. The hanafuda earrings he wears on the umbrella are the ones Tanjiro will wear four centuries later.

These two models appeal to those who like characters who stand apart, and they echo each other well: the Sun on one side, the Moon on the other. Our article on the Tsugikuni brothers and their rift tells their story, and their sections are the complete Yoriichi Tsugikuni collection and the complete Kokushibo collection. Zenitsu has his own, the complete Zenitsu Agatsuma collection.

The large stick umbrellas, with cover

The five large umbrellas change register. They open on sixteen ribs, and their large rounded canopy comfortably shelters one person, and two without difficulty. No portrait this time, or almost: each one reproduces the pattern of its character’s haori over the whole canopy, from the centre to the edge. Open, the umbrella reads like the demon slayer’s back.

Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira, his cold blue gaze under his tousled hair, in the half-light, season 1, Demon Slayer

Tanjiro has his sea-green and black checks, square after square, from one edge to the other. Tomioka has his two fabrics, the plain dark red half and the half with the turquoise, yellow and orange geometric pattern, meeting around the tip. Rengoku has his white centre surrounded by a crown of reddish-orange flames, like the bottom of his haori. Zenitsu has his yellow-to-orange gradient dotted with black-outlined white triangles. Shinobu has her white background traced with fine black veins, like a butterfly wing, tinted pink and pale blue towards the edge.

The covers get the same care. Zenitsu’s is orange, like his canopy, Rengoku’s white and orange, Shinobu’s white with the same veins, Tanjiro’s checkered. Seen from above, Zenitsu’s umbrella draws three circles of triangles around the tip, Rengoku’s a ring of fire around a white centre.

Closed, each large umbrella fits into a long strap cover, which is worn on the shoulder or on the back, like a sword case. Only the hilt sticks out. It is the model for those who love the character without needing to show it: from a distance, all you see is a pattern, and only fans understand.

A different handle for each character

The handle is the detail fans notice first. On each model, it reproduces the hilt of the character’s sword, with its guard, what the Japanese call the tsuba.

Tanjiro’s large umbrella has a black hilt, a binding open on orange diamonds, a black guard and a silver pommel. Tomioka’s has a white binding with blue diamonds, a hexagonal burgundy guard and a matching pommel. Rengoku’s has a white binding, an orange flame-shaped guard and an orange pommel. Zenitsu’s, a white and yellow binding and a gold guard. Shinobu’s, a black binding with orange diamonds and an orange flower-shaped guard.

If the guards interest you, our article on the sword guards of Demon Slayer presents them character by character, and the one on Nichirin sword colours explains the colour of each blade.

Which umbrella for whom?

For a secondary school student, the folding umbrella is the right choice: it fits in the school bag with its cover, and the sword hilt makes quite an impression at the school gates. For an adult who walks a lot, the large stick umbrella protects better and is carried on the shoulder without taking up your hands.

Tanjiro Kamado, smiling, his hanafuda earrings in his ears, in light clothes at the Butterfly Mansion, season 1, Demon Slayer

As for the character, choose the one who resembles the person. Rengoku for someone warm, who talks loudly and laughs even louder. Shinobu for someone gentle on the surface and formidable when needed. Zenitsu for the one who complains about the rain but always keeps going. Inosuke for the friend who charges ahead. Giyu for someone discreet, who says little but thinks a lot.

As a gift, an umbrella has a rare advantage: it is useful all year round, and almost every day in autumn. Our page on every Demon Slayer character helps you recall each one’s personality, and our guide to Demon Slayer gifts by budget gives more ideas.

The character who resembles them

Rengoku for the warm-hearted, Shinobu for the gentle but formidable, Giyu for the discreet: give the umbrella of the character who resembles the person.

An umbrella for every day

A Demon Slayer umbrella is not meant to stay in a cupboard. The folding one lives in the school bag, the sports bag, the car’s glove box or at the bottom of a travel bag. It comes out at the metro exit, on the way to school, in an April afternoon shower. With its printed cover, it does not wet the rest of the bag once put away, as long as you have let it dry.

The large umbrella, for its part, comes along on long walks and on days of real rain. Carried on the back with its strap, it leaves your hands free for a phone, a shopping bag or a child’s hand. Two people under the same canopy, it protects a parent and child on the way to school.

Both also make good companions at festivals or conventions, where you spend the day outdoors between stands. Our page Demon Slayer for kids, a guide by age gives more ideas for everyday items for younger fans.

Looking after your umbrella

An umbrella lasts longer when it dries properly. When you get home, leave it open in a ventilated room, away from a radiator, until the canopy is dry. Only then put it back in its cover: a canopy folded while damp holds the water, and eventually stains.

To fold it, gently pull each panel between the ribs before closing the strap, so the design does not crease. On the folding ones, close the umbrella first, then fold it along its joints, without forcing. If the canopy is dirty, a damp cloth is enough, with no household cleaner that would dull the print.

In strong wind, close it rather than fight: a gust can turn any umbrella inside out, and the ribs do not like it. Stored in its cover, it gets through the winter without damage.

The umbrella and the rest of the outfit

The large umbrella in its strap cover, carried on the back, recalls a demon slayer’s sword, and fans often enjoy the effect. It does not replace a cosplay katana, though: for a convention or a costume, a katana at the belt completes any cosplay, and our guide to choosing a Demon Slayer katana compares the replicas and the light-up models.

On rainy days, the umbrella goes well with a jacket or a sweatshirt of the same character. Our guides to Demon Slayer winter jackets and accessories and to Demon Slayer backpacks and bags complete the outfit. For a child, remember to measure them and go by the sizes shown on the clothing product page.

Budget and delivery

The nine folding umbrellas cost from €69.90, the five large stick umbrellas from €119.90, cover included in both cases. If you hesitate between two characters, the folding umbrella lets you give one and keep the other for another occasion. For a couple or two friends, the Yoriichi and Kokushibo folding umbrellas, or those of Tanjiro and Giyu, make a pair that tells a story: the Sun and the Moon, or the Hashira who spared Nezuko in the snow and the boy he sent to train with Urokodaki.

Allow 5 to 12 days for delivery depending on your location. Delivery is free in France, with no minimum purchase, and every parcel is tracked: order before the rainy season so you are not caught short. The gift ideas selection gathers other everyday items in the colours of the series.
