The gag is worn with the elastic band placed behind the neck rather than over the ears: it stays in place better and doesn't leave marks. The kimono should be washed cold, inside out, and dried flat. For a child, consider using a pin under the obi: the knot may come loose while running, and it's always at the wrong time. The black haori is worn open over the kimono, never crossed, and its wide sleeves can be pulled up with a cord passed behind the back when the child needs to eat or run without snagging anything.
