The five variations are named after the character whose haori they replicate: Nezuko, Tomioka, Shinobu, Zenitsu, and Tanjiro. The garment is cut into two vertical halves, one per fabric, exactly like the original garment, which makes the swimsuit recognizable even before you distinguish a pattern.
Five haori, five ways to cut the fabric
Giyu Tomioka is the character whose garment best explains this design choice. His haori is made of two completely different fabrics: a plain burgundy panel and a green and yellow scale-patterned panel, sewn together. Both come from the dead: the kimono of his sister Tsutako and the haori of Sabito, his training companion. The swimsuit maintains this split down the middle of the bust, and that is what makes it recognizable from a distance.
The other four follow their own logic. Nezuko brings the pink asanoha, the hemp leaf pattern that Japanese families used to place on children's clothing. Tanjiro provides his green and black checkerboard and the white waves of Water Breathing, Zenitsu his white triangles and yellow lightning, and Shinobu her pink and mint gradient ribbed like a butterfly wing.
