In short
A Zenitsu cosplay is recognised by its yellow and orange haori scattered with white triangles, its blond hair and its yellow katana. The section offers the complete costume at €79.90, haori, black uniform, belt, triangle gaiters and blond wig, in ten sizes from 110 cm to XL. Three katanas exist: the replica with a lightning blade at €99.90, the LED katana at €89.90 and the LED vapour katana at €159.90. Here is how to put the costume together, choose the blade and pose like the character.
Contents
Zenitsu is the character who makes people laugh the most in Demon Slayer. He cries, he begs to be sent home, he faints from fear, then, asleep, he gets back up and strikes faster than lightning. This contrast makes him an ideal cosplay: you can play the panic, then strike the lightning pose, and the audience will recognise both sides of the character.
This guide helps you put together a Zenitsu cosplay: the character’s signs, the complete costume, the child version, the haori alone, the katanas, accessories, poses, duos and care. To compare with the other characters, our guide to choosing your Demon Slayer cosplay presents the whole section, and all our buying advice is on the shop’s guides and advice page.
What makes a Zenitsu cosplay?
The haori comes first. It goes from light yellow at the shoulders to orange towards the hem, scattered with white triangles repeated in rows. This pattern is called uroko, scales: in Japanese tradition, it is believed to protect from misfortune, which suits the most fearful of the group. His leggings take up the same pattern, tied at the front with three white ribbons.
Next comes the hair. Zenitsu’s was black: it turned yellow the day lightning struck him during his training. A blond wig, cut short and in locks, is enough to make the link. Under the haori, the black demon slayer uniform, with a high collar and gold buttons, with puffy trousers and a white belt. Then there is the sword, yellow and black, streaked with lightning.
One last trait cannot be seen but can be acted: his hearing. Zenitsu hears what no one else hears, a heartbeat, a demon’s footsteps through a forest, a person’s feelings in the sound of their voice. At a convention, a hand cupped behind the ear, looking tense, is enough to evoke this gift that fans know well, and that makes him a far more useful demon slayer than he thinks.
With the triangle haori, the blond wig, the black uniform and the yellow katana, the character is complete. Our article on Zenitsu Agatsuma, the thunder demon slayer tells his story, and our Zenitsu Agatsuma Demon Slayer collection gathers all his items.
The haori does it all
From yellow to orange, white triangles: with this haori alone, Zenitsu can be recognised from the other side of the room.
Which Zenitsu to play?
The most spectacular Zenitsu is the sleeping one. When fear makes him faint, his body takes over: eyes closed, he takes his stance, a hand on the hilt, and cuts in a single stroke, at lightning speed, with the first form of Thunder Breathing. It is the pose fans are waiting for, crouched, eyes closed, ready to draw.
The other Zenitsu is the panicking one: in tears, teeth clenched, clinging to a companion’s arm, he begs to be let go. For a group photo shoot, alternating the two faces always gets a laugh. The most attentive fans will also recognise Zenitsu in love, who talks only about Nezuko and follows her with his eyes wherever she goes.
Behind these faces is the story of a boy no one thought capable of anything. Taken in by Jigoro Kuwajima, the former Thunder Hashira, trained by force despite his attempts to run away, he masters only one form, the first, which he repeats until it is perfect. Playing Zenitsu is also a tribute to this tenacity hidden beneath the tears.
The boldest will choose Zenko, the disguised version from the Entertainment District: to infiltrate a courtesan house, Zenitsu ends up made up as a young girl, in a yellow triangle kimono. A kimono and heavy make-up are enough to put this Zenko together, ideal for a comic duo with Inosuke as Inoko. Our article on the Entertainment District arc tells of this mission.
The complete cosplay
The complete Zenitsu cosplay brings together all the pieces in a single package, at €79.90: the haori, the uniform jacket, the trousers, the belt, the gaiters and the wig. The haori goes from light yellow at the shoulders to deep orange towards the hem, scattered with white triangles outlined in black, with three gold bands at the bottom of the sleeves. The gradient is printed over the whole piece, and the triangles stay sharp even in the folds.
Underneath come a black uniform jacket with a high collar and gold buttons, a white buckled belt and puffy trousers. The gaiters take up the triangle pattern, and the wig is blond, cut short. All that is missing is the katana, sold separately, and the shoes: white socks and flat sandals, or discreet black shoes, complete the silhouette.
In the series, Zenitsu’s hair is yellow and turns orange at the tips, cut in locks that go in every direction. To style the wig, tousle the locks with your fingertips rather than a comb, and secure it with a few pins so that it holds all day. A wig cap under the wig flattens your hair and keeps it from showing.
The costume comes in ten sizes: 110, 120, 130, 140, 150 and 160 for children, S, M, L and XL for adults. Measure and rely on the sizes on the product page: the jacket should close without pulling on the buttons, and the puffy trousers should come down to the gaiters.

Zenitsu is one of children’s favourite characters, and the complete costume comes in six children’s sizes, from 110 to 160. A five- or six-year-old can thus wear exactly the same costume as an adult, wig included. The yellow of the haori can be seen from afar, which is handy in a crowd at a Halloween parade or a school party.
For a child, leave aside the 104 cm replicas, which are display items: a foam sword will do for play. The wig can itch the youngest after an hour: try it at home before the big day. Our page on Demon Slayer for children gives guidelines by age, and our guide to Demon Slayer gifts for children by age offers other ideas.
Children like Zenitsu because he is afraid, like them, and still finds the courage to act. In the drum house, asleep, he protects little Shoichi and Nezuko’s box. He is a reassuring role model: you can be fearful and brave at the same time.
For an outdoor Halloween parade, slip a long-sleeved t-shirt under the uniform jacket: at the end of October, the evenings are cool. The yellow of the haori stays clearly visible under the streetlights, and you will easily find your child in the crowd.
The haori alone, in a light version
For a nod rather than a complete cosplay, the haori alone is enough. The light five-pattern haori, at €29.90, offers Zenitsu’s fabric among its choices, with wide three-quarter sleeves and an open cut, in seven sizes from XS to 3XL. It is worn over a black t-shirt and dark trousers, for a summer convention or an evening without dressing up completely.
The haori alone has another advantage: it can be worn beyond the convention. Over jeans and a white t-shirt, it becomes a summer jacket that recalls the series without being a costume. For a fan who wants to wear Zenitsu every day, it is the simplest piece to fit into a wardrobe, and the cheapest in the section.
For the beach or a summer evening, the chiffon haori capes also take up Zenitsu’s triangles, in sheer, light fabric. Our guide to Demon Slayer haori compares all the haori in the section, and our article on the haori patterns explains the meaning of the triangles.

Zenitsu’s replica, at €99.90, measures 104 cm in all, with a 75 cm bamboo blade. The blade is black, streaked with long yellow-green lightning bolts rising towards the tip. The guard is a yellow flower set on a grey plate, the handle is bound with a white cord with yellow diamonds, and the white scabbard is capped with yellow at both ends. It is the most faithful blade for daytime photos.
| Katana | Length | What they do | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Replica | 104 cm | black blade with lightning, flower guard | 99,90 € |
| LED | 80 or 100 cm | blade that lights up yellow, charging through the pommel | 89,90 € |
| LED mist | 104 cm | glowing yellow blade and cold vapour | 159,90 € |
The LED katana, at €89.90, comes in 80 cm or 100 cm, with a bamboo and acrylic blade that lights up yellow along its whole length, almost white in the centre. The control is touch-sensitive and charging is done through a socket in the pommel. Its guard draws a yellow cloud around a grey plate, and the blade, when off, bears golden flames. The 80 cm suits a teenager or a shorter person, the 100 cm an adult.
The LED vapour katana, at €159.90, measures 104 cm, with a 77 cm wood and acrylic blade. It adds a cold vapour diffuser to the lighting: the yellow blade smokes in the half-light, like the lightning that accompanies Zenitsu. It is the brightest in the range once lit. Remember to charge the LED and LED vapour katanas the day before the convention: a blade going out in the middle of a photo shoot would be a shame. All our blades are blunt; still, check the convention’s rules, which often regulate replicas.

A few accessories complete the cosplay. Earrings take up the haori fabric, white triangles on a green and orange gradient, as 7 cm plates, from €14.90, as studs, clips or hooks. A plate necklace bears Zenitsu’s portrait on a yellow background crossed with lightning, at €14.90. These are details people notice in close-up photos, and they can be worn long after the convention, every day.
Fans love another detail: the sparrow. Zenitsu does not have a messenger crow like the other demon slayers, but a little sparrow he calls Chuntaro, while its real name is Ukogi. A plush sparrow on your shoulder or in your hand makes everyone who knows the series smile. Our article on the animals of Demon Slayer tells this story.
For the home, after the convention, the slippers and the triangle wearable blanket extend the character. Our Demon Slayer jewellery section gathers the earrings and necklaces of all the characters, our Demon Slayer slipper section the triangle mules, and our Demon Slayer throw section the yellow and orange wearable blanket.

The emblematic pose is that of the first form of Thunder Breathing. Crouch down, one knee very low, your upper body leaning forward, your left hand on the scabbard and your right hand on the hilt, eyes closed: it is the instant before the lightning. For the photo, ask the photographer to get down low, at the height of your blade.
In a group, place Zenitsu in the foreground, crouched ready to draw, and the others behind him, standing: the photo tells of the moment when the most fearful of the group reveals himself. A funny variation is to put him behind everyone instead, clinging to Tanjiro’s sleeve, in tears, while Inosuke charges ahead.
In the half-light, the LED vapour katana makes this pose spectacular: the yellow blade lit, the vapour rising, the orange haori lit from below. It is the photo everyone will want to take. The panic pose, on the other hand, is done standing, eyes bulging, hands on your cheeks, or clinging to a companion.
The most experienced will reproduce the seventh form, which Zenitsu invents on his own to face Kaigaku in the Infinity Castle: a lunge forward, blade outstretched, like a thunder dragon. Our page on the Demon Slayer breathing styles presents Thunder Breathing and its forms.

The most eagerly awaited duo is Zenitsu and Nezuko. Zenitsu falls in love with her at first sight, protects her, showers her with compliments, and the epilogue shows their descendants. A couple or two friends as Zenitsu and Nezuko cause a sensation at conventions. Our article on Zenitsu and Nezuko tells their story, and our guide to the Nezuko cosplay helps your partner.
The trio with Tanjiro and Inosuke is the other great classic: three friends, three haori, three blades, and photos where Zenitsu panics while the other two charge. Add Nezuko, and the quartet is complete. Our guides to the complete Tanjiro cosplay and the complete Inosuke cosplay help the other members of the group.
For a duo of rivals, the most intense for those who have followed the story to the end, Zenitsu and Kaigaku, his former fellow pupil turned demon, form a pair fans appreciate. For a comic duo, Zenko and Inoko, the two disguised figures of the Entertainment District. Fans of Zenitsu’s story will also enjoy a duo with Jigoro Kuwajima, the old master who paid off his debts and trained him by force: a stick in hand, a wooden leg drawn with make-up, and the character is recognisable. Our Nezuko Kamado Demon Slayer and Inosuke Hashibira Demon Slayer collections gather your partners’ outfits. Our page on all the Demon Slayer characters gives other group ideas.
Wearing, caring for and ordering
The haori and the uniform are washed by hand or in the machine at a low temperature, inside out, and dry flat or on a hanger, in the shade: direct sunlight fades yellow faster than dark shades. Iron at a low temperature, inside out, so as not to flatten the print. For a long convention day, bring a bag for the haori when it is hot, a bottle of water and something to restyle the wig, and do a full fitting at home a few days before. The wig is gently detangled with a wide-tooth comb, and stored on a polystyrene head or in a net.
The complete costume costs €79.90, the light haori €29.90, the replica €99.90, the LED katana €89.90 and the LED vapour katana €159.90. A complete Zenitsu with his replica thus comes to €179.80, with the LED vapour katana €239.80. Our demon slayer cosplay collection, our Demon Slayer LED vapour katana section and our selection of Demon Slayer Halloween costumes gather the rest. Items are delivered in 5 to 12 days depending on where you live.
